Linen Industry
The textile industry in India is one of the largest segments of the
Indian economy accounting for one fifth of the country's industrial
production. The sector employs around 15 million people and earns a lot of
foreign exchange through this industry.
Table and kitchen linen are broadly an important section
of the home furnishing industry that falls under the preview of the textile
industry. Manufacturers and exporters in this industry offer a spectacular

table mats, aprons, mittens, etc.
India is one of the major suppliers of kitchen linens in the world market.
Export of handmade cotton table and kitchen linens and other cotton
furnishings accounts for a major section of export.
A forerunner in international markets, the Textile Industry in India is
widely acclaimed and acknowledged for its superb quality textiles. Total
textile exports during April-March 1998-99 were to the tune of US $ 12533.1
million (RS.52720.78 crores). April 2000 to December 2000 has seen a
remarkable increase in total exports of textiles at US$9735.2 million
(RS.440179.4 million). The main markets for Indian textiles are USA, UAE,
UK, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Canada, Bangladesh and Japan.
